Environmental Commitment - Bellagio

Environmental Commitment

Bellagio is committed to conservation efforts that support living in the desert. These practices extend beyond Bellagio and reach the local community by educating employees about conserving natural resources at home as well as partnering with local, eco-minded organizations.

The following are some additional ways in which Bellagio fosters its environmental commitment.

Natural Resources Conservation

  • Incandescent light bulbs were replaced with energy efficient LED bulbs in 2,200 slot machines
  • Lighting in the parking garages, bus terminal, pool area, and Bellagio marquee has been retrofitted with energy efficient bulbs saving millions of kilowatt-hours
  • Electricity consumption has been further reduced by millions of kilowatt-hours through ongoing heating and cooling systems efficiency projects
  • Lake Bellagio and the "O™" pool are replenished with non-potable well water
  • Motion sensors were installed in office areas to automatically turn off lights when not in use
  • An upgraded water treatment system saves millions of gallons of water each year
  • The towel and bed linen reuse program in guest rooms conserves water and energy

Waste Management and Recycling

  • Bellagio sorts waste behind the scenes to recycle cardboard, paper, kitchen grease, plastic, glass, and aluminum. Food waste is also separated for livestock feed.
  • In 2009, Bellagio recycled:
    • 1100 tons of cardboard and paper
    • 660 tons of organic food waste
    • 160 tons of glass
    • 70 tons of plastic
    • 55 tons of metal
    • 55 tons of construction & demolition waste
  • The Horticulture department recycles, composts, and/or reuses 100% of plantscaping and landscaping waste

Procurement

  • Grocery vendors are committed to delivering 90% of all items through two distributors, reducing transportation emissions and fuel consumption
  • Ammoniated cleaning chemicals have been eliminated

Employee Programs

  • Bellagio is committed to educating employees about the benefits of green activities. Internal newsletters, green fairs, and a Conservation Begins at Home program allow employees to learn how to conserve by developing environmentally sustainable habits in their personal lives
  • Bellagio participates in the Regional Transportation Commission's (RTC) Club Ride program which encourages the use of alternative transportation for commuting to work
